...you either never drive the thing, or you enjoy it and watch it murder the value relative to the overwhelming majority of cars that see maybe 5,000 miles in 5 years.

Of course if you drive it or not... those engine services are not cheap. I don't think many are engine out anymore, but the prices I've seen wouldn't make me feel much better.

Have you considered a 4C? It could only be a toy/fun car, but my friend who has one just loves it, and so do the three or four of us who've driven it.
