I think it's really only been good in that it feels carthartic to get an ending. Unfortunately it seems pretty clear to me that while Martin likely gave them the ultimate ending, he didn't give them much help getting there, because a lot of the storylines and/or scenes in this season really don't make a lot of sense to me.

The Jamie/Cersei storyline for one; I can't believe that it was Martin's intention to lead Jamie on a multi-book arc of redemption, only to have him turn heel after a single one-night stand.

The other is Dany's flip. While it's been heavily foreshadowed for ages, the way it happened was pretty unsatisfying to me. It's hard to believe that after all of her "breaking the wheel" talk, and all of the things she did for the little people, eg Mereen, that she's just flip out at the sight of the Red Keep and burn them all. I think that her going full Mad Queen was always the plan, I just think they did a poor job of giving her a reason.

I'm happy there's going to be some closure, and I think it's very likely that the person who ends up as the winner on the show will be the same eventual winner we get if the books ever get an ending, but I think the path has been pretty rough on the show. That said, the battles this season have been epic, if I turn my brain off a bit.
