Geography is everything with old trucks.
My s10 lived it's life in Iowa first, then Wisconson, then Kansas. So it was rotten underneath--the floorboards, wheel arches, cab corners, rocker panels, under the bed liner, the brake lines, all the suspension parts, engine mounts, etc. The frame didn't rust through, however.
I replaced it with an exceptionally clean '04 Nissan Frontier that spent it's entire life (up until last October) in Oregon and people around here always ask if I just repainted it--"why it look so NEW?"
My current truck crush is mini-trucks from the 70s, especially the Datsun 620. Almost bought a really clean 1987 Nissan "hardbody" but my mechanic advised me to buy trucks made in the 21st century unles I'm looking for a hobby/project vehicle. And I'm not.
