Ran as a libertarian, yet inserted himself into the 80s crack epidemic by suggesting entire city blocks be cordoned off in black parts of Dallas, house to house searches, fuck the 4th amendment. He commandeered police meetings my dad attended, and he still curses that little jerk for his pompous ignorance.

I first heard of him when he fucked up our school hours because of his cacamamie notions about education that were nonetheless adopted statewide.

He may’ve been self made (via government largesse as usual), but that hardly makes him admirable. He was just a classic dictator, and his notion that business acumen gave him license to insinuate himself into matters of public policy he couldn’t begin to comprehend was really hard to take up close.

His idea that being a good business leader makes one great at all aspects of life—particularly governance—has cast a pretty long shadow despite being obviously inaccurate.

Not a fan

“Don’t overplay. Don’t overplay. Less is more. It will always be: less is more. Nobody is ever going to remember all those fancy solos - even the guys that play them, most of them won’t remember - so play some licks that people can walk away humming, that people can identify with." --Steve Cropper
