There is the issue that you Brits all like homes so skinny you can't walk past someone in the hallway. When your rooms are 3' wide, of course you don't need a big TV

But ya, always size your TV to your viewing distance. Ideally you want to look at about 30-40 degrees viewing arc. More than that, and you end up having to move your head around to see what is going on, plus your sound gets way too far off to the side. So for a 65" TV that means about 6-9' away from the TV.
