My father in law, RIP, was a huge fan of the Shadows. But yeah, I read the wiki on him yesterday. 3rd in albums behind the Beatles & Elvis all-time in the UK.
Honestly, Devil Woman was the only song I ever knew by him, and I couldn't hum it, just remember this stupid video for it on MTV or Casey's Top 10 in the early 80s (google says 83).
All I was ever really familiar with him as was the odd obsession of Rik Mayall's character on the Young Ones. Seems like he was kind of a slightly edgier Pat Boone type, but what the hell do I know... maybe he had an acid period. I didn't get that far in the wiki before boring myself to sleep.

“Don’t overplay. Don’t overplay. Less is more. It will always be: less is more. Nobody is ever going to remember all those fancy solos - even the guys that play them, most of them won’t remember - so play some licks that people can walk away humming, that people can identify with." --Steve Cropper
