it's just a little rubber or plastic doohickey that goes into a hole in the brake pedal arm way up underneath the dash, but without it, the brake lights stay on all the time. Even with the ignition turned off.

Since I couldn't find the right part at any auto parts store, I found something similar at a hardware store and put it in and it worked. I tapped the brakes about 40 times in a row and the light stayed off when the pedal was released.

So I put the dashboard back together and called it good, but the next day, the brake lights were back on. Apparently the part I jerry-rigged wasn't strong enough or thick enough to hold.

I have to order the exact match from the dealer. Car's sitting out back with the battery disconnected to prevent the brake lights from draining it.
