I always thought USB flash drives (pen drives?) were inherently slow. However, this is actually because people usually go for cheap ones or get given them.
There are certain things I need to ahem.. download which I can't get elsewhere as they aren't available here or not on Netflix etc.

Copying over to the USB key for watching on my TV always took longer than downloading the files from the internet! (WiFi streaming to the Apple TV was always jerky and unreliable).
So, I went and got myself a Sandisk Extreme Pro USB3 128gb stick. Files copy crazy quick onto there.. like a few seconds for a HD movie.
I'm sure it's faster than my actual internal drives!

My favourite Christmas presents are always the ones I buy for myself.
