...regardless if you're Libertarian, Liberal et al I think we have a tendency to get hung up on models. Models of capitalism, models of socialism, and not only the models, but perhaps a romanticized view of how those models SHOULD work.
When the rubber hits the road per se, the models may stand up to a certain point and then it's "where do we go from here?".
Such as the "free market". In many respects I agree with most free market principles and that it does operate. At the same time we have aspects of socialism, and that operates as needed too and has many principles I think could blend with other models and work for us. Same for Communism, in theory sounds awesome, in reality not so much because like any model it makes presumptions about its operating environment.
I think if we can take step back and see what can be done to not have overreaching gov, to encourage and/or mandate fiscal responsibility, but at the same time recognize that our public services and social issues need the appropriate attention and funding, that the market DOES need regulation to a point and find that grove where it can fit together the best it can, I think we could make a lot of progress. A lot more progress than just being angry, greedy, and pointing the finger at the other guy,
